Testosterone Steroids
Of all the various anabolics none are more important than testosterone steroids. Of course as you understand Anabolic androgenic steroids are all testosterone derived but in this case we are speaking specifically of the actual testosterone steroids of which there are a few. In many ways all testosterone steroids are the same; each one is comprised of the same identical testosterone hormone; in that there is no difference. However, we can separate the testosterone steroids based on the esters that are attached to them and in once specific case the lack there of.
The particular ester or esters in some cases does not change the testosterone hormone; testosterone is simply testosterone regardless of the ester and in many ways the form we choose really doesn’t make as big of a difference as many have been led to believe. The manner by-which the hormone functions and performs within the body is the same within each form; however, the ester attached will determine initial activity, total duration of activity and even potency on a milligram basis to a degree depending on the mass of the ester(s) at hand. Let’s take a look at the various testosterone steroids and see if we can’t make sense of what can seem like a confusing mess to many.
Popular Testosterone steroids:
There are many various testosterone steroids but there are three single ester forms, one ester free form and two testosterone mixtures that are the most popular of all. By far most who steroid with this powerful androgen will be doing so from one of these forms and sometimes a few from the list; although generally unnecessary. The popular testosterone steroids include:
- Testosterone-Suspension (No Ester)
- Testosterone-Propionate (Small Ester)
- Testosterone-Enanthate (Moderately Large Ester)
- Testosterone-Cypionate (Moderately Large Ester)
- Sustanon-250 (Small & Large Ester Mixture)
- Omnadren (Small & Large Ester Mixture)
As mentioned before the ester attached to the hormone can affect total potency on a per milligram basis as the ester itself takes up a portion of the mass in the compound. This would obviously mean Testosterone-Suspension is the most powerful on a per milligram basis as it has no ester attached. However, while this remains true the total mass and potency in this regard generally makes very little difference and we will not spend any time on it here; it is more or less simply an interesting note and not of great importance for most performance enhancers.
When examining testosterone steroids and the various forms the most important factor is the half-life in-which it carries; again, this is determined by the ester(s). As eluded to this will effect injection frequency, initial activity and total duration of activity in each form. The smaller the ester the shorter the half-life and the shorter the half-life the more frequently it will need to be injected, the faster activity will show and the shorter total duration of activity will be. To provide understanding here are the half-lives associated with each:
- Testosterone-Suspension (Less Than 24hrs)
- Testosterone-Propionate (Approximately 4.5 Days)
- Testosterone-Enanthate (Approximately 10.5 Days)
- Testosterone-Cypionate (Approximately 12 Days)
- Sustanon-250 (Approximately 16 Days)
- Omnadren (Approximately 15 Days)
It should be noted the testosterone mixtures Sustanon-250 and Omnadren while carrying long total half-lives, as mixtures made of long and short esters will actually show positive activity much faster than large single ester testosterone steroids. Further, as mixtures that contain small esters they will need to be injected frequently in order to maintain stable and peak blood levels despite large esters being present if these particular testosterone steroids are being used for performance. If they are being used for therapy infrequent injections of every 10-14 days may suffice.
Rare Testosterone steroids:
The following testosterone steroids are rarely used alone but in specific cases you may find them to be available. However, in truth we have already discussed them as they are the testosterone steroids that make up Sustanon-250 and Omnadren; two 4-part testosterone mixtures. In almost all cases you will only find these forms in mixtures with rare exceptions but we have listed them here as single ester forms outside of a mixture for your convenience in understanding. Such testosterone steroids include:
- Testosterone-Phenylpropionate (Moderately Small Ester)
- Testosterone-Isocaproate (Moderate Ester)
- Testosterone-Caproate (Large Ester)
- Testosterone-Decanoate (Very Large Ester)
- Testosterone-Undecanoate (Very Large Ester)
To give full understanding of each of these testosterone steroids the half-life associated with each is as follows:
- Testosterone-Phenylpropionate (Approximately 4.5 Days)
- Testosterone-Isocaproate (Approximately 9 Days)
- Testosterone-Caproate (Approximately 9 Days)
- Testosterone-Decanoate (Approximately 15 Days)
- Testosterone-Undecanoate (Approximately 16.5 Days)
